Files and Settings Transfer Wizard problems

Ok, I am having problems using the files and settings
transfer wizard in order to transfer files from old
desktop running XP to my new laptop. I have crossover
connected to both ethernet ports. I've done everything up
to gathering the files to be transferred and then I get
the message to Please type in the password to be
displayed on my new computer then my laptop tells me that
there is a problem and automatically shuts down the
wizard. I've looked everywhere on how to do this and any
help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
 
On my desktop it says an error occurred while the wizard
was saving your data. The wizard cannot locate your new
computer.
 
Not all network cards like crossover cables. Try straight-through cables
connected to a hub, switch or router.
