Files and Settings Transfer Wizard Help

I just bought a new computer, so I'm new to Windows XP. I have an old
computer (Windows Me) and I was want to transfer files from that computer to
my new one, using the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard. I am using Parallel
Cables to connect the computers.

I bought the computer as a package, so it did not come with the Windows XP
CD. The Wizard suggests that I should create my own Wizard disk using a
floppy, but my new computer did not come with a floppy drive, so I cannot
create a wizard disk to run on my old computer.

I have tried copying the Wizard program onto a regular CD, and tried running
it on my old computer, but an error always occurs and I have to close the
program. I have copied the program onto the CD several times, and tried
using it on my old computer, but the error continues to occur.

Is there a way I can fix this problem?

The only thing I can come up with is to buy an internal or external floppy
drive and install it myself, but that's way out of my budget.

Just move the hard drive, install it as a slave and copy away. Best of all
it's free and well within you budget.

There are many ways to transfer files besides using a parallel
cable. Which is best often depends on how much data you have to
transfer. Here are some suggestions to consider:

1. E-mail them to yourself from your old computer and read them
on the new computer .

2. Burn them to CDs on the old computer and read the CDs on the
new one.

3. Uninstall the hard drive from the old computer and connect it
as a second drive in the new one (either temporarily or
permanently) then copy the data over.

4. Write the data to floppies on the old computer and read them
on the new one Yes, I know you said that your new computer has no
floppy drive, and buying one is "way out of my budget," but are
you aware that an internal floppy drive can be bought for around
$10 US?

5. If you don't want to buy a floppy drive and your old computer
has no CD burner, write your data to floppies, take them to a
friend with a CD burner and have him burn the data to CDs for
you.

6. Put a Network Interface Card in each computer (about $10 each)
and connect them with a crossover cable (about $5). Total cost
around $25. Set up a network between the two and transfer the
data.
