Files and folders vanish when copying to cd

When I want to copy files and folders to a floppy or cd they vanish. I put
the cd or floppy into the drive. Then I right click the file or folder, click
copy. The files never appear in the drive folder. Windows will not let me do
anything else including shutting down. I get the error message that it is
busy using the rescources and the only way to shut down is to unplug the
computer.

The best way to copy files to a CD is to use proprietary software like
Nero..
