Filename.XLS:file format is not valid

Scott

All excel files fail to open and I get the "file format
is not valid" warning instead. I can open these files on
another networked computer so it is not the file name.

I have 2000 xp pro as OS and office 95.

Please help. Thanks

Sounds like the version of Excel that you have is
corrputed or is not associating the files to Excel
correctly. Quickest way to fix it is uninstall office and
re-install it. That should re-establish the file
associations also.

Hey Paul,

Thanks for the reply but that was the first thing I did.
I completely removed Office and reinstalled but it still
gives the same message for all my .XLS files.

Any other Ideas?

Thanks again,

Scott

Try opening the file with word or internet explorer if it does,
you could save as a new name or copy into a new excel file
and sometimes just opening with the browser cures the
problem. I'm not sure why.
Hope this helps.

I found the same problem with my Office 95 installed on Windows ME, seems like the old Excell can not read the new files.....I am trying to get an upgrade from Office 95 to 97. As you can read in this board, Microsoft not longer support Office 95, so we are now by ourselves....
