I have added a footer with the filename into Normal.dot but it doesn't update
when a new document is opened? Can anyone help?

Hi,
when you open the new file, you would need to open the footer and right
click filename autoentry and update the field to reflect changes.

You could use a macro attached to a toolbar button to update the field in
the header/footer, but normal.dot should not be altered to include a footer
as it causes all sorts of grief with (e.g.) labels. Use a separate document
template.

If you want the macro approach you'll find instructions at -
