When ever I shut down and repower up I get a file on my
desktop. It looks like an s laying on it's side. I have
scanned it with Norton and it's not a virus. When I check
the properties it says File. Descripition s ( on side )
Location: C:\ Documents and Settings\Desktop. Size 178 KB
Size on disk 180 KB. I tried to open it and it says it
cqan't find the program to open it, suggests going on
line to find program to open. I have deleted it and it
comes back.. Any suggestions as to what it is or how to
keep it from comming back???????????????

This is a little bug related to the Outlook Express addressbook. It will
be fixed in the next Service Pack. You can safely delete the file and
not worry about it.

don't be alarmed, it's a tilde ~ right? it's just a backup file from outlook that happens to appear on the desktop. noone really knows why and as far as i know, microsoft hasn't really done anything to correct it. if you delete it, outlook will make another backup. i usually create a folder somewhere and put it in there and so far, it goes to that folder instead of my desktop. hope that helps:

Hi, Dwayne.

As MVP Malke says, it is not a problem, just an annoyance that MS has
promised to fix - soon.

The name of the "s laying on its side" character is "tilde". It's a
perfectly valid character used in Spanish (and maybe some other languages).
