File with *.wdb extension

I just received a file with this extension. I think it is
a Works database. I have Access, Excel, Word, etc. Is
there anyway I can open this document? It is from a
client, and I hesitate to tell him I don't have the
program necessary to do this project.

Appreciate any help/advice.

I wouldn't be so hesitant to admit an inability to open the file. You could ask the client to
export the data as a comma separated variable (.CSV) file, which Access should be able to import
easily. On the other hand, you can likely find a fairly cheap copy of Microsoft Works on Ebay.

You're probably right. Always hate to admit to
any "imperfections." But I don't have time to buy a copy
so will have to do it this time. I will look for a copy
though. Thanks for confirming that I couldn't do anything
else with it. Thought maybe I was overlooking something.

Try opening it in Excel. There's no direct way to get the data into
Access but Excel isn't quite as picky!

Google (file extesions) turns up several links.
http://filext.com/detaillist.php?extdetail=wdb confirms that it is a works
database.

I imagine that you could import it into Access or Excell - or download a
converter from Microsoft.

You can't import it into Access (Access doesn't recognize the format), but I
think certain versions of Excel can import it.

AFAIK, there is no downloadable converter from Microsoft.

into word 2000 files

Since you don't know what version of Works was used, I'd suggest
either ordering the 2004 OEM version of works Suite at $48 from
http://www.directdeals.com/category_works_suite.aspx
, or if the file isn't too large, ZIP it and send me a copy and I'll
convert it for you. Ues my Yahoo email address please,

If you want to get the Works package, you should note that you also
get a new copy of the full version of Word. I usually get next day
delivery using the free UPS shipping, but I live near Houston, which
is close to their shipping point.

Guten Abend Tom,
I'm in the UK, but I use the dfn.de newsserver.
A long time ago the ISP that I used then had rather unreliable newsfeed, so
I used dfn.de as it was more reliable and free.
The ISP newsfeed has since improved (and I've changed ISP too) but I carry
on with dfn.de for historical reasons.
