File type

I'm sending out typed documents (i.e. Agenda, or Minutes of meetings)
to a group of 8 people who have various types of word processors
(Word, WordPerfect, Microsoft Works).I'm using Office 97 and wonder
what type of file my documents should be saved as so that they may be
viewed by others who don't have Word ? From my very limited
experience,I thought RTF would work but apparently it didn't.

Would appreciate any guidance. Also I would be grateful if someone
could point me in the right direction to learn more about this.
Thanks

The best thing to use would be a .PDF file as created by Adobe Acrobat and a
couple of other free shareware programs.

Try PDF995 as I found that very good and very cheap!

I'll look into that one.
In the meantime, can you enlighten me. Isn't RTF supposed to be the
common denominator, so to speak, that allows interaction between word
processors ?

If you wanted the recipients to be able to edit the documents, then yes,
..RTF may be the way to go - I am not really sure though how well all word
processors will be able to handle it. If you did not intend the documents
to be edited, then Portable Documnet Format (.PDF) would be a better option
as the formatting in the documents will be preserved.
