I recently exported some addresses from Netscape Mail in LDIF format,
when I view the file in My Computer it is just shown as 'file'. If I try
to open the file I get a dialogue box with the message "Windows cannot
open this file" and the option to let windows go on line and find a
program to open it or pick a program from a list. The file will open
quite readily in Notepad. I am sure Win 98 used to show these files as
'LDIF file'. Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

There is no extention of the file. Sometimes when you
save things from MSIE (maybe Netscape too) windows
foregets to add the extention (ex: jpg, gif, doc, pdf, or
ldif).

The only solution I know of is to rename the
extentionless file adding the appropriet extention on the
end.

Ex: picture => picture.jpg
document => document.doc
