File Sort in WinXP Explorer

I have just upgraded from Win2K SP4 to WinXP SP1 and noticed right off
that files are not sorted in WinXP quite the same as in Win2K. I Win2k,
the files were sorted by the characters in the file name independent of
the number of characters in the file name. WinXP appears to sort first
by file name length and then by file name within that sort. This makes
it difficult to select a file for editing in AutoCad, Word, or any other
application that sorts the WinXP way. Is there any way to get WinXP
Explorer to sort strictly by file name independent of file name length?

Thank you

When you are in Explorer click the "name" tag at the top of the files list
this sorts them in alphabetical order

Peter-

Yes, when I view "details" I can sort by file name
regardless of file name length. I prefer to view
by "list" however, both in Explorer and in applications.
Even after I sort by file name in a "details" view, when I
then change to "list" view, the sort is first by file name
length and then by file name. This certainly was not the
case in Win2K. Is there any way to sort by file name
(only) in a "list" view?
