file sharing xpP and xpH

cindy

i have been trying to resolve this issue:
xp pro and xpH
i have set everyting up for a workgroup (i think)
i can access the shared folder from xph to xpp but i
cannot access the xph from xpp
i believe xpp is set to simple file sharing
when i do a cmd>net view i can see the shared folders
on the xpH. however, when i go into network places in
xpp, and click on workgroups, nothing happens. there are
no instances of workgroups in my "entire network" there
is only microsoft terminal client and web client network
visible
When i try to set mapping a network drive, there is not
Microsoft network client instance.
i have made sure that netBios is enabled and common
computer brower is "started"

HELP!!!!!!!!!!

Where is the shared folder and/or folders that you are
tring to connect to? Also check the XPP computer to make
sure the workgroup is named the same as the workgroup in
the XPH. The last thing I would check is that you have
the guest account enabled or you have set the setting in
the security to allow users to authenticate as themselves
instead of the guest account. I can explain that more if
that in fact is the problem.

Please explain the setting in security which allows users to
authenticate as themselves. This may be the answer I'm looking for
(fingers crossed/I hope)

We are having all sorts of networking issues and I've double-checked
everything that everyone has suggested. Here's the issue:

We have 2 PCs (one is accessing the internet directly and one is
accessing the internet via a Netgear wireless network connection) and
a laptop (also accesses the internet via a wireless network
connection. IP addresses are assigned via DHCP. All 3 computers can
access the internet -- no problem with that at all. The PC and laptop
that are on the wireless connection can see and access the other PC.
The PC that's "wired" can see the wireless PC and laptop but cannot
access the files -- permission is denied. The two wireless machines
can neither see nor access each other -- "path not found". We have XP
Pro on both PCs and XPHome on the laptop.

Machines are all part of the same workgroup. Firewalls are turned off.
NetBIOS over TCP/IP are enabled. Full access permission is granted to
both of us. We can access all of the machines if we use IP addresses
instead of computer names. Of course, that's going to require us
assigning static IP addresses. Any other thoughts? I'm going
absolutely crazy trying to solve this!!!

Well, I tried everything with this problem. Enableing Guest User.
Disabling Guest User. Checking Simple File Sharing. Unchecking Simple
File Sharing. And so on. You know what finally did the trick? We
purchased Norton System Works on Friday to create a ghost of a hard
drive that was going bad. So, I ran the "one button checkup and it
found 200+ problems on my desktop. I opted to fix all of the problems
and -- voila -- now my network works. All computers can be seen in the
workgroup. They all can be accessed. We're still using DHCP to assign
IP addresses and we're accessing the internet from all computers just
fine. So, I don't know exactly what file was corrupt but what was
taking me going on 2 weeks to find and try to solve NSW fixed in less
than 5 minutes.

Well, the network was working just great yesterday for about 7-1/2
hours and then *poof* all of the computers in the workgroup gone.
Didn't do anything once the network was working. Didn't install
anything. Didn't adjust anything. Nothing. The only thing that
happened at about the same time as the network failing was my husband
playing Call of Duty and using TeamSpeak. That, surely, wouldn't have
anything to do with it, would it?

Getting the same Master Browser Event 8009 error in the event log.
Getting the same NetBT Event ID 4321 error again, too. These errors
are showing up on the laptop (XP Home) and desktop (XP Pro). Subnet
Mask is correct on all computers. Every computer can access the
internet. NetBios over TCP/IP is enabled. All permissions for full
access are granted.

So, back to the drawing board. I think I'm going to have a freaking
breakdown! Any more suggestions?

Spyware could cause this. Try SpyBot and also use a virus
scanner. Only after that perform the Winsock repair procedure
described in http://www.michna.com/kb/WxNetwork.htm.

How are you protected against malevolent access from the
Internet? How does your Internet connection work? Where is your
firewall and is it actually protecting you sufficiently?
