Can't get XPH and W2K to talk to each other?

Hi all,

I have two computers:
an XPH machine and
a W2K machine.

XPH is on wireless connection WRT54GL
W2K is wired directly to port one.

Logged on as tim on XPH machine.
Logged on as Administrator on W2K machine.

Can ping both ways.
Guest account enabled on both machines.

192.168.1.100 for W2K machine
192.168.1.103 for XPH machine.

Workgoup name on both macnines is "HOME".

Network mask on both machines is 255.255.255.0.

When I go to network neighborhood on each
machine I can see only the local computer, the other
computer does not show up. I have seen error
message you may not have rights .... I thought guest
accounts would take care of that? Do I have to
create a specfic share to have the other computer see
the local machine? Do I have to create an account
like "tim" on both machines to have them see each
other?

thanks,
charles....

Charles,

The error message "... access denied ..." or its variants can have many causes.

http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/06/mysterious-error-5-aka-access-denied.html

In your case, and as you have visibility problems, check NetBT and all personal
firewalls.
<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/07/advanced-windows-networking-using.html>
http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/07/advanced-windows-networking-using.html

And check restrictanonymous.
<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/07/restrictanonymous-and-your-server.html>
http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/07/restrictanonymous-and-your-server.html

And look at "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all", from each computer, and
diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked articles, and follow
instructions precisely (download browstat!):

Make sure that a firewall program (Norton, McAfee, ZoneAlarm,
PC-cillin, etc) on each computer isn't blocking access from the other
machine. Note that some recent antivirus programs include a firewall
component that has to be configured, such as Norton Antivirus'
"Internet Worm Protection".

To view the W2K shares from XPH, you must create an account for "tim"
(with the same password that XPH uses) on the W2K machine.

XPH will allow access by all users on W2K.
