File Sharing with XP

I recently set up individual accounts on the family PC (running XP Home) for
my 2 daughters. They then each wanted to choose their favourite photos to use
as a background. As all the family digital photos where in the "My Pictures"
folder of my account (set up as administrator) I decided to drag and drop the
"My Pictures" folder into the "Shared Documents" folder so they could access
them and set their backgrounds ... which they have now done.

I went to move the "My Pictures" folder back into my area, as I didnt want
it left in the shared area in case they accidentally deleted 3 years worth of
memories, but the OS wont let me. I get the message "My Pictures is a Windows
system folder and is required for Windows to run properly. It cannot be moved
or renamed".

This is fair enough, but how come it let me move it the first time ??
Can I get around this ??

Thanks in advance ................... Steve

I would say it won't let you move it back, because it is in use (the
pictures your daughters chose). Have them remove the pictures from their
background. Then try copying the pictures to their user accounts. Then try
moving the folder.

1.) What you did the first time was share them. The actual files didn't go
anywhere.

2.) If you do actually want to move or copy files around from the "My"
folders (My Documents, My Pictures etc..) don't attempt move the folders,
move the files from one folder to another. You can select all, groups, or
individual files using keyboard shortcuts.

a.. Ctrl+click to select or unselect files one at a time.
b.. Select one file, then Shift+click and select another file to select
all files between the two you selected.
c.. Press Ctrl+A to select all files.
d.. Want to unselect all the files that are currently selected, and select
all others? Pull down the Edit menu and choose Invert Selection.

c.) That you're concerned with your pictures being accidentally deleted
seems to indicate that your only copies live on your computers harddrive. If
the only copies you have of these "3 years worth of memories" reside on your
harddrive eventually you will lose them. If you have kids operating the
computer chances are excellent it will be sooner rather than later. Back
them up to some other media.
