file sharing with password protection

Emad

Hi

i was wondering if anyone can enlighten me how, if
possible, to password protect certain shared files on
WinXP Pro. that only certain people have passwords to
EDIT and MODIFY while the rest only have viewing
capabilities. I am talking about sharing files and
folders in a network environment.

Thank you in advance.

Windows XP does not have a password-protect file feature.
The following article describes how to setup file sharing and
permissions:

Store on NTFS.
Share with Change granted to Users
In NTFS permissions of shared area,
set the Users grant to Read, then add and
set a Modify grant to those accounts that
should be able to change item

This assumes Pro edition not using Simple sharing.
