Hey there,

I recently setup a wireless network between my desktop pc and 2
laptops. I set the desktop pc for file storage. I created a common
drive with share access. I moved all of my office files, pictures,
videos, etc. to the desktop pc. The two laptops can connect to the
desktop pc, but the transfer speeds are very slow. For example, if I
use Google's Picasa accessing pictures on the desktop pc, picture load
times are between 30 sec to 1 min. I have heard that WinXP file
transfer protocols suck...if that's the case what alternative do I
have.

BTW...the router seems to be working fine. My internet connection works
great on all three computers. I really want to speed up my home
network. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your
help!

Well wireless is slow, start to copy over a massive file and hit ctrl
alt del and look at the networking tab and it will tell you the exact
speed your sending at.. most wireless links never get anywhere near the
stated speed (ie 54mb) what speed are you connected at? is there clear
line of site between the pc's or if not is there anything metallic in
the way? slow speed can be caused by signals being lost and
retransmitted constantly, microwaves, hot water cylinders high volts
are causes.

Flamer.

it says it is transfering at 54mbps (31% network utilization), but when
I try and access a picture (3mb at most) via picasa it takes 30 sec to
1 min. Any ideas? Thanks, John
