file share or permissions problem

Recently, I added another hard drive to my system. I wanted to re-format my 1st hard drive so I zipped up many files and sent them to my slave drive with plans to unzip and put them back on the main drive. After re-formatting and re-installing XP-Pro, I cannot unzip these files. I get a message that there is a 'file share or file permissions problem'. I have tried logging on as 'administrator' and thus didn't work either.

Can anyone help me out with some ideas? I used winzip to zip them and am using winzip to try and unzip...no luck

thanks in advance

Hi Brian,

You need to take ownership of them. Right-click the folder, select
properties. Go to the security tab and click advanced. You can take control
of the folders on the owner tab. For the security tab to appear in a WinXP
Pro system, you must disable simple file sharing in the control panel/folder
options/view tab. For a WinXP Home system, you must restart in safe mode and
logon as administrator. More details here:

Thanks Rick

Seems so simple :) unfortunately it didn't work....it goes thru like it supposed to , and when I go back and check it, I am the owner. However, it still won't unzip.

Yeah other files zip ok. Also, I burned one of the zip files to a dvd and attempted to unzip it off the dvd. Now it gives me a different error message ... "Winzip wizard cannot open this file/ It does not appear to be a valid archive....getting very frustrate
