File Save Issue

I am using Word2002. From the menu bar, my File | Save no longer works (all
other save methods (i.e., save as, save all) works correctly). I have tried
the following (none of which fixed the issue):
(1) Removed it from the menu and added it back (confirming that normal.dot
was selected in the Save In list).
(2) Customize, selected Menu Bar and Reset
(3) Deleted all normal.dot files found on the hard drive
(4) Add/Remove Office and choose to repair installation.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

When you say it no longer works, what, exactly are you doing, what are you
seeing, what is the result?

What happens when you press Ctrl-S?

What happens when you make changes in a document and try to close it without
saving?

For instance, if I'm starting a new document and go to File | Save, nothing
appears to happen (same thing happens when I press Ctrl-S even though I
customized my keyboard assigning File | Save to Ctrl-S). When I'm in an
existing document and do a File | Save, it does not save the changes either.

If I make changes to the document, do a File | Save and then close the
document, Word asks if I want to save the changes (which does save the
changes successfully).

FWIW, Ctrl+S is the built-in keyboard shortcut for FileSave, not your own
assignment. In this case, however, I would look for a FileSave macro that
may be intercepting the built-in command.
