File Rename menu

Eng. version of XP SP2, with Chinese Language Support enabled.

Something had changed recently: Right click on a file -> Rename -> Right
click of the file name, the pop-up menu (cut/paste etc.) is in Chinese! How
to revert the menu back to English?

Thank You
JM.

Use System Restore to go back to a point before the problem
became apparent.

mfc42loc.dll is the first thing to look for when foreign languages appear.

Locate the file mfc42loc.dll and, if found, check its properties.

This file tells mfc42.dll what language to use in some dialog and menu
boxes. Installing a program that comes in multiple languages (or installing
an update that is not the same language as the operating system) will
occasionally drop a copy of this file that does not match the users
language settings. Renaming or deleting the file allows Windows to use the
user's default language settings instead the language noted by the file.

I found a Japanese version of mfc42loc.dll on my old machine. I could not
delete it so I renamed it to mfc42locx.dll, rebooted and then deleted
mfc42locx.dll. I think I mistakenly clicked yes to a Japanese Language Pack
on some web page in Internet Explorer to get the thing in the first place.
My new machine has no mfc42loc.dll at all on it.

Thanks for all the info, I don't find any files by the name of MFC42Loc.dll on my PC.
One thing that I just noted is the translation of "Copy/Paste... Menu" only took place on Desktop & Folder/File view, the rest (within applications etc.) are not affected.

Have a nice weekend - JM -
