Yesterday I had to reinstall my XP operating system. Is
there any way to recover files from before the reinstall?

SORRY, once you reinstall XP overwrites anything you had
installed or downloaded from before, the only way you can
prevent it from happenning again, is to backup on CD if
you have a burner, or disk if necessary, believe me I
have lost alot, til I learned to BACKUP... good luck
