File/Properties/Summary Tab

Hi all,
I have desperately tried to find the answers to the following two
questions but have been unable to...

1) how does one add a "property sheet" (tab) to the right-click on a
file->properties->tabs for SUMMARY (where one enters
title/author/comments etc.) for ALL file types????

i am certain that it can be done because i HAD it on my machine (always
used it to add comments to, say, downloaded program files which i would
then display in Explorer in the "title" column)...BUT: in the course of
one of my "explorations" i unfortunately installed dotnetfx.exe (MS
..net framework redistributable) and since then file properties do NOT
have this property sheet "summary" any more AND none of the patiently
collected entries in the title column show any more (major bummer!).

which leads me to the second question:
2) does the disappearance of these "comments" (add-ons to the files
displayed in explorer "title" column) mean that they are now
irretrievably LOST??? (or can i get them back somehow?)
very grateful for any help!!
thanks,
chrisk

Try re-registering docprop2.dll

Go to a command prompt and type(without the quotes): "regsvr32 docprop2.dll"

Also try changing the view to "Use Windows Classic Folders" in the Folder Options -> General Tab.

Additionally, if the file has been Encrypted, the property sheet will not be visible.

The information that you have previously written in the Summary tab is stored as part of the NTFS file system. As long as you have not
changed the file system to FAT or FAT32. It should still be there.

thank you darren!
did the above, i.e. reregistered docprop2.dll successfully (classic
view was enabled anyway)... no cigar!!!!
neither the "summary" tab shows (except when it's "included" in the
downloaded file's property sheets), nor do the "old" summary comments
reappear in the "title" column of explorer view.
i'd be very grateful for further suggestions!
thanks,

Further in the ongoing saga (and in the hope that some expert "out
there" will know about this issue):

as i described in my initial post, my "summary" property sheet (tab) in
file/properties, which i had for ALL file types working perfectly (and
where i entered comments which i displayed in the explorer view/title
column) has disappeared, and the old entries do not show up any more in
the title column.

i have uninstalled the (most probable) culprit (ie MS .NET
redistributable) and tried a system restore -> unsuccessful ("cannot
restore"...maybe a corrupt restore point collection? maybe all restore
points wiped out?).

i have, as suggested here, reregistered docprop2.dll, successfully...it
didn't change anything to the problem at hand.

i have thereupon gone into SAFE mode...and, lo and behold, EVERYTHING
is fine (summary tabs are present everywhere, entries show up in title
column of explorer).

would somebody please know what i must now do so that my view settings
in NORMAL mode will equal those in safe mode???
thank you for your help,
chrisk

further to this problem:
i have, in the meanwhile, also tried regregistering shimgvw.dll..no
change...then sfc /scannow...no change.
when, subsequently, explorer became increasingly unstable, i did an xp
repair install...and the difference between the explorer display in
SAFE compared to NORMAL mode is STILL the same: in the one summary tab
(in properties) always present and displayed entries in explorer
"title" column, in the other, nothing.

now, while it's comforting to have a (somewhat) stable system again,
the continuing issue with explorer is a drag and, in the long run, i
guess a reinstall will be necessary. oh well...
but still, i'm intrigued by the issue and am wondering whether anybody
has any hypotheses on what could explain such a difference in explorer
display between the two modes (any settings, services, registry
entries???).
would be very grateful for any further pointer,
best thanks,
chrisk
