FILE & PRINTER SHARING URGENT!!

Guest

I am desperately trying to get my network to do file and printer sharing.......

I have internet sharing no problem.... and my wife and I want access over
the network to pictures and music files, also print out documents as one
would normally do.....

This is the problem at present and no-one seems to know how to cure it.

1. LAN CONNECTION PROPERTIES 4 boxes - client, file and printer sharing,
QoS packet scheduler, internet protocol.

2. I have QoS checked and Internet protocol checked.

3. If I check File and printer sharing for MS Networks and click OK it comes
up with the following menu message......... WHY????

"YOUR CURRENT SELECTION WILL ALSO DISABLE THE FOLLOWING COMPONENTS: FILE AND
PRINTER SHARING FOR MICROSOFT NETWORKS ARE YOU SURE YOU
WANT TO DISABLE THESE COMPONENT(S)? YES/NO.......

Click NO and the check mark disappears...........

Click YES and go OK the menu disappears........ check in properties again
and the check mark for file/printer sharing has gone again.

Is it possible that in the original setup of windows that this has been
disabled from when the machine was built (CUSTOM BUILT 64bit and striped
HDDs) ??

We are at a total loss as to what else to do and as to why this message
comes up as it seems to contradict itself........ By putting a tick in the
check box you should be enabling this part and yet it doesn't.

I can ping both machines with no problem. My friend can get his laptop and
connect into my wife's no problem and see the relevant shared folders.......
why can't I???

Can someone please please help me on this?

Thanks

Steve

The network connection has become corrupted and needs to be replaced.
Go to Device Manager and uninstall the corresponding network adapter.
Reboot, and let Windows reinstall the network adapter. That will
automatically create a new network connection.

You're welcome, Steve. I'm glad that my suggestion helped you fix the
problem. You gave a great description, and I've seen the problem
before.
may 2006 bring you a hefty pay rise.

Thanks! I do computer consulting, and I had my best week ever last
week. And I'm raising my rates next week.

And to you, too.
