File Permission Issues

Currently I have a folder that when I save files into the
folder it changes the permissions to the parent folder's
permissions. I go into the permissions and change them
back but when ever I make a change to the file and save it
it change the file permissions back. I have removed the
checkbox for the inherit permissions from parent but each
time I go back in it is checked again. How do I fix this
issue?
Thanks

I think this is not possible. How you exactly "save files" there?

Are there permissions assigned to the creator/owner group? If so when the file is
modified it may be receiving the permissions for that group which you may want to
modify to suit your needs. --- Steve

Hi Steve,
I am not sure what you mean but permissions assigned to
the creator/owner group? The creator is me and the admin
user on the folder and subfolder. When I open for example
an excel document that is currently set with particular
permissions that are different from the subfolder that it
sit in and then I save that document it changes the
permissions to the subfolder that it is sitting in. The
users need access to the folder to retreive their excel
sheet but they are not suppose to be able to access each
others. Any ideas? Thanks.

It is usually a better idea to have separate folders where access is
controlled for users/groups instead of trying to put all the files in one
folder.

The creator/owner group is often seen in the advanced security page. When a
user creates a file they will be assigned ntfs permissions that are assigned
to creator/owner if it is presesnt which may be different than their usual
group would give them. Otherwiswe what is happening is that the file being
modified creates a new file [and deletes the original] which will inherit
the folder permissions.

One workaround that you may try is to give the users group just write
permission on the main security page. Then add the owner/creator group and
give them appropriate permissions such as modify which will allow the file
creators to access and delete their own files. Then go into the advanced
security page for special permissions and add the users group again and
select folder and subfolders in the "apply onto" box and select allow for
only list folder/read data. That may accomplish what you want. --- Steve
