Is there a way to add locations into the File Open window
(it currently displays History, My Documents, Destop,
Favorites and My Network Places)?

I know that I can add a shortcut on the desktop for
example that I can click on, but can the icons on the
left be modified?

Hi Jack,

It's possible. Obtain and install the Windows XP version of TweakUI.
Download it from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

Open TweakUI > Common Dialog > Places Bar > Custom Places bar

Add your entries in there.

It's called the "Places Bar." You can modify it using the free
Microsoft TweakUI, which will also do many other useful things
for you.
