File open dialog box produces the following error

Hi,

I have moved the contents of the My Documents folder onto another logical
drive 'D:\My Documents' in order to protect the applications space from
documents on the drive. The original 'My Documents' folder still exists on
C:\ but is mostly empty. This has been done after the applications were
installed. Now when I open excel it opens a new spreadsheet but if I try to
go 'File, Open' the following error occurs.

The file could not be accessed. Try one of the following:

* Make sure the specified folder exists.
* Make sure the folder that contains the file is not read-only.
* Make sure the file name does not contain any of the following characters:
<>?[]:DMEODMA.xla or *
* Make sure the file/path name doesn't contain more than 218 characters.

Existing files can still be opened via Explorer and have no other
difficulties but this is inconvenient. If I do a 'Save as' the dialog box
opens in c:\documents and settings\my identifier\application
data\microsoft\excel. I seem to have lost the config setting to the 'Open'
dialog box but I can't find any reference to it in Tools/Options or any
strange looking files in the new setup that I could copy back.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

In Excel, click on Tools, Options, select the general tab, and make sure that
you have specified the drive and directory where your files now reside, eg
E:\My Documents
