I want to get rid of the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in the notification
tray. Does anybody know the file name of this application/service?

Right-click on the Taskbar and select:
Properties > Taskbar (tab) > Customize.
Click once on the"Safely Remove Hardware" entry,
then select "Always Hide" from the pull-down menu.

Thanks I'll try it. BUT will this stop the application from being prefetched
(or whatever the term is - the equivalent of what used to be known as TSR)?
The pull down menu on the program you suggest implies that although the icon
can be hidden, the application is still active! I'm assuming that this
application to remove hardware is something I can opened if and when I need
it - it surely doesn't need to be running all the time?

Hi again,
I tried your suggestion - it did not work. The icon's still there on reboot!
