and menu
repair under remove programs

my next step is uninstall the reinstall

does anyone know what is going on?

There is a file that you can try to regenerate. It is in a system folder
(so if system folders are hidden you will have to un-hide them prior to
being able to navigate to this).

The toolbars are kept in a file called
C:\Documents and Settings\**USER**\Application
Data\Microsoft\PowerPoint\PPT11.pcb

Where **USER** is replaced by the user account name
Where PPT11.pcb is for PowerPoint version 2003 or
PPT10.pcb is for PowerPoint version 2002 (XP)

Rename this file to something like PPT10.old when PowerPoint is NOT open.
Then open PowerPoint. The program will look for this pcb file and when it
does not find it, it will generate a new, fresh, clean one.

Hope this does the trick for you. If not, please post back.

Donnie,

You can add the file menu by following these instructions:
1. Select Tools | Customize...
2. Select the Commands tab.
3. Scroll down to 'Built-in Menus ' from the categories list and select it.
4. Drag 'File' from the corresponding commands list to the main menu and
drop it.
5. Close the customize dialog.
