Excel crashed while copying row. Get 'file open by another user' msg when
trying to re-open. Copied file in order to keep working. How do I get rid
of old file?

What happened is that Excel didn't totally go away after the crash, but
remained in memory with a link to that file. You can go to the task manager
(Ctrl+Shift+Esc) and on the processes tab, look for excel.exe and any of
these processes.

You most likely have a *.tmp file which Excel creates when working on a
workbook.

This is to be deleted when the workbook or Excel closes normally but your crash
left it hanging.

Most a re-boot is necessary to get rid of the *.tmp file.

Hi,

I think maybe your excel file is damaged, but you can try a utility
called Advanced Excel Repair to repair your Excel xls file. It works
rather well for my corrupt Excel xls files. Its web address is
http://www.datanumen.com/aer/

Hope this helps.

Re-boot the computer.

Excel stores a termporary file while you are working on a workbook.

Normally, the *.tmp file is deleted when Excel and the workbook are closed but
due to the crash, the *.tmp gets stuck.
