Some files are in use by the system. If you want to e.g. reduce the
size of the archive file 'index.dat' in your profile's Cookies folder
you cannot do it if you are logged on as that profile, but you can
if you logon as another user, presuming you have the permissions
to do so. So what file are you trying to open?

Word and excel files...

Hi,

This is typically caused by the "security protocol" called SMB. This is
established
by the error message not identifying the User that has the file in use.

We can look in the event viewer for ID 3034 and the source Mrxsmb. The
current release of this file is
Date Time Version Size File name
------------------------------------------------------
19-Apr-2004 23:04 5.0.2195.6924 408,752 Mrxsmb.sys
19-Apr-2004 23:03 5.0.2195.6924 88,624 Mup.sys
19-Apr-2004 23:04 5.0.2195.6924 169,936 Rdbss.sys

This article contains text for the most recent issues with SMB. I am
focusing on the File types specifically
for Windows 2000. It is always best to have the most current versions
available for this issue.

To resolve this problem immediately, contact Microsoft Product Support
Services to obtain the hotfix. For a complete list of Microsoft Product
Support Services phone numbers and information about support costs, visit
the following Microsoft Web site:

receive

[1]When was the last time you scanned for viruses?
[2]..and how uptodate is that software?

I'm only saying this, because your condition is very
unusual.

[3]Do you have a firewall?
[4]Do you browse on internet using the Admin account?
