File freezes

When I open my file the cursor turns to a new document icon (small white page
with dog ear at top) and I cannot enter any data anywhere, close the file ...
nothing. I am so frustrated with this happening so often I am considering
Lotus 123 (Oh no!). Help.

One way to move a worksheet is to click and drag on the worksheet tab.

It has that same icon. It sounds like your mouse might be sticking. I'd try
gently banging on it to see if that releases the buttons.

(and if you have a wheelmouse, click a few times on that wheel, too.)

Clicking and dragging on the worksheet tab moves the position of the
worksheet. And it isn't a problem with the mouse sticking, (mouse or
trackpoint on the ThinkPad) because if I move if out of excel into a
different program, everything is fine. Another thing that occurs is that
Excel will not allow me to select a cell in which to enter date, it will just
randomly select areas of cell, depending on where I move the cursor, and
won't let me out of the program. (I have to move my cursor to the Excel icon

Clicking and dragging the worksheet shows you the same icon???? That's why I
guessed it was a sticky mouse/pointer.
