file format

downloaded app. from openofice.org to see if it was better
than office as some say. Opened one excel spreadsheet,
didn't like it - uninstalled it. Now all excel
spreadsheets have file extension xls and won't open until
I go through 2 or three error messages. Excel now saves
workbooks with xls extension.
Have no idea whatis going on.

Hi,

This should solve that:

Start, Run,
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\Office\Excel.exe" /Regserver

Quotes mandatory, Note you may have to change the path.

Thanks very much Jan. Files now open right up in Excel.
Still have wierd extensions and different icons, but at
least everything works smooth again. Thanks again.
