File format of downloaded pictures

When I attempt to download a picture from a webpage, or a
newsgroup I get only a BMP file option--it wont let me
download the picture in jpg, which I know the picture to
be. Is there a setting I've errantly switched?

Basically, you need to clean up your temporary Internet files.
