using Office 2007 with XP. Excel files sent as attachments carry extension
xlsx and have been advised receivers of emails cannot open these attachments.
can i disable the 'sx' and/or how can the file be opened. thanks

Which makes it an Excel issue and not an Outlook one. Either way; set your
default save format of Excel to xls instead of xlsx or inform the receiver
of the message to install the Office 2007 compatibility pack.

Even with the compatibility pac - users are forced to save rather than open
if they are using the web interface for Outlook exchange server.
