File Explorer keeps searching!

When I open up a file explorer, say My Computer for example, the right hand
window taked about 30 to 40 seconds to become populated and all I get is the
red and grey torch scrolling back and forth whilst 'Searching for items ...'
gets displayed on the bottom status bar.

I also seem to get this problem when trying to access the computers system
tree, for example when using Word I click the down arrow in 'Save as'.

Any idea what it is searching for and causing it to run so slow?

Remove any CD or DVD that you may have in the applicable drive. Then try
again. Also, disconnect any external hard drive and re-try.

Hi Richard,

Thanks for the possible solution but I don't have any discs in any of my
internal drives, there are also no external drives connected.

If you have any other thoughts ?
