I used a file yesterday, closed it, no problems.

I boot up this morning and the file is missing & not in the recycle
bin.

My search for it didn't prove very useful.

I do have an old copy, but would prefer not to re-create some of the
data.

Any suggestions?

thnx

When I go to the folder that this file is supposed to be in, I don't
see an option for "Undo Delete"

Do you know where the application you were using to work with or otherwise
view the file saves its keeps such files? Usually, applications have a
preferences or options setting that allows you to edit where to save files
for the application. If you find that, it may tell you the location, then,
you could navigate back to it.

Where you last saved the file go to that location and right click anywhere
and choose "Undo Delete" doubt it will work but worth a try.

It happened to me but i think i put in recycle bin even thou it did not show
there.

It's the darndest thing!

It's an Excel file that I use everyday; In fact, it's got its own
shortcut on my desktop.

This morning, Excel says it can't find it...it's been renamed,
deleted, or stolen by homeland security!!!

I've searched in its home folder, the recycle bin, on my entire
computer, and also searched for anything that was close to the
original name.

NADA!!!!

???????????

I had a similar problem with Access some time ago. It seems to have to do
with how you save the file. That said, the file you were working with
should be there even if the changes you made are not. In other words,
assuming this is a file You've worked with before and not a new file you
just created yesterday, something you post implies, have you done a search
on file type. I think its xml and it of course would bring up all such
files on your system but it should bring up that file.

As to how I got around the issue, unfortunately I don't remember beyond the
fact that I found both Access and Excel had a weird file saving convention,
which, if you didn't follow, the changes you made wouldn't be saved.
Forgive me, I haven't used either application for awhile.

However, if a search on Excel file type doesn't bring up the file, you might
try this question in microsoft.public.office.misc or
microsoft.public.office.xml.

Hi, RexChun.
I edited my may financial statements last night and save in two

Edited with WHAT? Quicken? Excel? Word? A custom application?

Which OS? Since this is the Vista general NG, I assume Vista, but you could
easily tell us exactly which of the many variations: Vista Home Basic?
Vista Ultimate x64 SP2? Telling us basic information in the initial post
saves lots of back-and-forth requests for details - especially when you need
the answer quickly.

Have you looked in Start | Recent Items?

A technique that USUALLY works is to start to do the job again. Excel, for
example, keeps a list of recent files. You should be able to find and load
your recent file. Then, tell it to Save - or Save As... - and WATCH where
the file goes this time. Even if you can't find your missing file, just
tell the application to Save any document - but abort the Save after noting
the proposed destination; there's a good chance you'll find your missing
file in THAT folder.
