File delete bug in XP SP2

I just found a bug in XP SP2. Please help me on this one. I had some files
and directories in X:/stuff/things/

I cut/pasted them in X:/stuff/ (moved one folder up) but upon pressing
CTRL+V, I decided to move them back by pressing CTRL+X while they were still
Highlighted.

When I tried to paste them back in X:/stuff/things/ I got an error message
saying they were used by another program. Fine.

So I unhighlighted them and tried again. Another error. Tried to delete
them, still an error. what is going on? I then tried to open each folders
separatly but THERE ALL EMPTY with 0 Ko!!!! Also, all files that weren't
included in folders, althought I can see them, when trying to open them I get
a "file missing" error.

Unlocker and safe mode did not work.

I don't care about the files as I was going to delete them anyway but all
those undeletable entries are annoying!!!!!!!

I reproduced the error afterward to confirm the bug. So in short, if you
cut/paste something and immediatly try to cut/paste it back to where it was,
it deletes everything but keeps their names just to taunt you......

They were highlighted, but not 'selected'.
Try your experience this way...

Create a folder - call it "TestFolderA"... Inside that folder create two
other folders : "1" and "2". Create a bunch of text files in sub-folder
"1". Open sub-folder 1 and press CTRL+A to highlight everything there.
Press CTRL+X to select to CUT everything in sub-folder "1". Now browse to
sub-folder "2" and press CTRL+V to now place what you cut into subfolder 2.
If you were to immediately press CTRL+A and then repeat - you could move
everything there - but the highlighting you see is not actually selecting
the files until you press CTRL+A.

Ok, but I'm still stuck with empty folders that I can't delete. By the way,
a program called "delinvfile" for "delete invalid file" took care of the
files which gave the "file not found" error. Although the program as an
"invalid folder delete utility", it didn't work.

So, any suggestion on how to get rid of empty folders using another program
or via registry???

The usual method is to delete them while in Safe Mode.

I have a folder called X:/things/stuff/
In there, I have 16 subfolders with problems. They're all 0 Ko and I can't
delete them because, as the result of the BUG, their "read only" boxes are
checked and grayed out. I can uncheck them but even if I click apply and OK,
their boxes get checked and grayed out back.
If I try to open those subfolder, I get "X:/things/stuff/nameoffolder is not
accessible - access denied" error.
If I try to delete them in normal as well as in safe mode, I get a "cannot
delete - acces is denied - make sure the disk is not full or write-protected
and that the file is not currently in use" error
I tried softwares like unlocker, deleteinvalidfiles, killbox. I also used
their "delete on startup" fonctions
I tried deleting them manually via command prompt inside and outside windows
shell by killing explore.exe process
I tried swearing at them
I tried an evil stare
I'm out of idea...

All of this because I changed my mind while Cut/pasting those useless
folders. By the way, when I decided to move those folders, there were files
in them. They're all gone but the folders are kind of stuck between two
parallel universes.....They're not completely here, nor completely
there.....I'm going crazy

It is possible that you have insufficient access rights to these
folders. Try logging on as Administrator while in Safe Mode,
then delete them. If this does not work then seize ownership
of them while in Safe Mode. Click Start / Help, then look for
help on "Ownership" if unsure how to do this.
