File Copy Error

R

Rusty

I am using XP-Pro on a new laptop. I find that when I
copy a file on the HDD, either by drag/drop or Ctrl-C/V,
the file and copy are not identical. They fail the DOS
FC /b test.

This is repeatable on this computer. It does not happen
on other computers that I use.

The CMOS boot-up says RAM is OK, and I receive no error
messages related to this problem.

I'm at a loss how to resolve this. I didn't find any
HELP or KB references.

Any help? Thanks.

Hello Rusty;
I do not think the FC, MS-DOS command is available in
Windows XP.

Just for you, Melvin:
Open "CMD" window (Think DOS): Start>Run>CMD
From there, just about all the old DOS and batch commands
are there.

Hello - if you're really getting corruption copying files from
within the same HD, perhaps the drive is going bad.
Do a chkdsk /R and consider downloading the HD manufacturers
diagnostic software to test the drive.
Secondly, try a memory tester, such as memtest.

Thanks - Memtest found the bad DIMM! Interesting isn't
it how XP doesn't seem to have a "VERIFY on" feature.
