file associations and unassociating

Is it possible to unassociate file extensions with a
program? I don't simply want to associate the files with a
different program. I just want to leave the file type
unassociated with any and every program. Any ideas? Thanks
for your help.

My Computer --> Tools --> Folder Options... --> File Types
Do your editing there!

Click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT Go to:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\<extension>

Right click the appropriate extension key and select Export. This creates a
backup. Then delete all of the subkeys and values for that extension.
