File Associations and DDE

Hi, I was wondering if someone could provide or point me to some overview
of DDE. What is it? How does it work? I'm mainly wondering when I should
check that box that says "DDE" in Control Panel > Folder Options > File
Types > Advanced, and when I do, what I should fill in under the text
fields.

Also, I'm wondering how you can get rid of the Restore button in Control
Panel > Folder Options > File Types (and instead make it say "Advanced" so
that you can see what the exact configuration is). If this isn't possible,
then where in the registry is this (file association) information stored?
It doesn't seem to be located under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, which was my first
(and only) guess.

Did you try help and support? Did you search Google for DDE? Did you look at
MS site for DDE? As for the restore button, what OS are you using?
