File Association - unable to force association

I have a number of programmes installed on drives other than C that I cannot
force the file association with.
I have tried all methods noted previously in the group but none work.
Basically if I browse for the programme and select it, it does not add it to
the list and therefore cannot be associated.
I have the identical problem with W2K sp4, XP Prof and also SBS3.
At present I either have to open the programme and then load the file or
drag the file to the task bar or desktop icon. Both methods are really
frustrating when other installed programmes in the root drive can be opened
by a simple DC.
All helpful suggestions gratefully received.

David,

Care to share which programs they are, and what the extensions are? It
doesn't make any difference which drive a program is installed on, as I
have all my apps installed to E: and they are all associated properly
(at least the ones that need it).

I too have a partition of w2k that references the same drive E: for the
same apps and don't have any issue there, (nor win98, or Me).

The progs are eg:
FastCAD (needed for FCW, DXF files)
and similarly on my server, View32 - which is the FastCAD viewer for these
files.
Secondly WSFTPro
Basically it seems that if the progs do not appear in the Windows "Open
With" pop-up then I cannot point at the prog.
(I can live with the W2K but XP and SBS 2003 are used by others)
cheers

You need to click the 'Browse' button and find the necessary executable
file in the 'Program Files' folder. Once you've selected it/them, they'll
appear in the list and the file association(s) will be made.

Hope this helps you.

Thanks for the response - unforynately that is precisely my problem - after
selecting from the browse procedure, the progs do not appear!!
