File associations

I have downloaded some split video files and windows
failed to recognise the file extensions (mpg.001, mpg.002
etc). Before I found a suitable joining program I
mistakenly associated .003 files with a program - the
wrong one. Now all .003 files are associated with this
programme and my joining programme will not work. How do
I get rid of this incorrect association so that windows
does not recognise the extensionagain as this will then
allow my joining program to do its work?

File Association Fixes
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm

Go to Start/Run/CMD and type in: assoc

Copy the line for the association you wish to restore. A Command Prompt
window will open. Right click in this Window and select Paste. Then press
Enter.

More info:

ASSOC [.ext[=[fileType]]]

..ext = Specifies the file extension to associate the file type with
fileType = Specifies the file type to associate with the file extension

Type ASSOC without parameters to display the current file associations. If
ASSOC is invoked with just a file extension, it displays the current file
association for that file extension. Specify nothing for the file type and
the command will delete the association for the file extension.

In Windows Explorer, look under Tools/Folder Options and then click the
File Types tag. There you can set how to handle file associations.

Control Panel - Folder Options, File Types page.

Look for the 003 in the Extensions column, , highlight and click Delete
