File assocation to be changed

Srinivasulu Bhattaram

When I click on a .WMV file, WINAMP starts and tries to play.
But it does'nt.
I do not want WINAMP to start ...but my double clicking should start
REALPLAYER and the load the .WMV file.
How to change the file association setting in REAL PLAYER and/or disable
file association in WINAMP.
Is it a WINDOWS issue?
Can any one guide me on this ?

Right click the .wmv file...

From the menu...choose...Properties / Change button...

On the 'Open With' screen...select the app you wish to
set as default for that file type...

OK / Apply / OK...

Yes, this is a Windows feature. You will get all the guidance you need by
clicking Start / Help, then looking for help on "Association".

I'm surprised that WinAmp snuck in there. RealPlayer is one of the
grabbiest applications around when it comes to associating file types
with itself.

The following is for RealPlayer 11, but the procedure ought to be
similar for other versions:

Open RealPlayer, select the Tools menu, then Preferences.
In the Category pane on the left, select "Media Types." If you don't see
Media Types, click the + next to "Content."

In ver. 11, at least, there are two radio buttons. The top one will make
RealPlayer the default application for just about every audio/video
media type you can think of. Otherwise, select the "Manually configure"
button and then click "Select." There's a "Tell me more" button to
click if you have questions.
