File and Print Sharing

Matt

Hi,

Am running a network at home between 3 PC's. Have set up
all properties - IP addresses etc. Internet connection
sharing works fine but the file and print sharing does not.

PC1 - Has the internet connection via broadband which is
shared and working fine. I can ping PC2 and PC3 fine but
cannot see them on the network, share files or the printer.

PC2/3 - In the Workgroup can access each others files and
printers. PC1 is visible in the workgroup but non-
accessable. I cannot PING PC1 from these machines.

I have checked the computer names, workgroup names. I
have set up microsoft networking and all that garbage - no
luck!

Anyone got any ideas

Thanks

Matt

1. Permanently disable XP's built-in Internet Connection Firewall on
local area network connections -- it's for use only on a direct modem
connection to the Internet. Disable and un-install all other
firewalls while troubleshooting. Details here:

Windows XP Internet Connection Firewall

2. Use only one protocol for File and Printer Sharing. If the network
needs more than one protocol, unbind File and Printer Sharing from all
but one of them. Details here:

Windows XP Network Protocols
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp/network_protocols.htm

3. Make sure that NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled on all computers.
Details here:

Enable NetBIOS Over TCP/IP (NetBT)
