one way share

my wired home network consists of 2 computers: PC1 running XP Home SP1
and PC2 running XP Home SP2. PC2 has a printer attached which I would
like to share

Both computers can access the internet through my Belkin router.

On PC2 My Network Places shows the shared files for both computers.
On PC1 My Network Places shows the shared files for PC1 only.

When I try to add the PC2 printer to PC1, the printer doesn't show up.

When I ping PC1 from PC2 I am successful
When I ping PC2 from PC1 I get four timeouts.

I have already run the network setup wizard, made sure they are on the
same
workgroup, and that they have unique names.

I don't really care about the file sharing, what I really want to do
(other than share the internet connection) is to share the printer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The most likely problem is that a firewall program (Norton, McAfee,
PC-cillin, ZoneAlarm, etc) on PC2 is blocking access from PC1.

Note that some recent antivirus programs (Norton, PC-cillin, and
possibly others) include firewall components. For example, Norton
Antivirus 2006 has "Internet Worm Protection".

Configure any firewall program to allow access by other computers on
the local network.

o.k.-that was it.
My most recent update of McAfee Security Center included a firewall.
I had to change the firewall settings to add the IP address of PC1 as a
trusted computer.
Then everything worked like a charm
The PC2 printer showed up automatically as a PC1 computer.
Thanks!

You're welcome! A firewall is almost always the cause of one-way
networking like you describe. Thanks for reporting the result.
