Im trying to use Open SSH to access files in a folder on a XPSP2 Machine via
an IP-Connection.
On the installed Kaspersky Firewall port 22 has been opened. The Windows
Firewall has been disabled.
A group was created locally to grant NTFS Modify permissions to the folder
and my user has been added to the group
Authentication via SSH is working properly, but i can only access and even
modifiy the contents of the folder when i grant Read Access to my folder to
"Everyone"
"Everyone" shoulnd't be granted Read Access to the folder.
How can i configure my machine to access this folder via SSH without
granting Read Access to "Everyone"?

Hi Frank,

Windows XP has a feature called Simple File Sharing.By default, simple file
sharing is enabled on a Microsoft Windows XP-based computer if the computer
is not a member of a domain. With simple file sharing, you can share
folders with everyone on your workgroup or network and make folders in your
user profile private. However, if simple file sharing is enabled, you
cannot prevent specific users and groups from accessing your shared
folders. If you turn off simple file sharing, you can permit specific users
and groups to access a shared folder. Those users must be logged on with
the credentials of user accounts that you have granted access to your
shared folder.

To disable simple file sharing, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, and then click My Computer.
2. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options, and then click the View tab.
3. In the Advanced Settings section, clear the Use simple file sharing
(Recommended) check box.
4. Click OK.

Hi Vincent,

on my machine simple file sharing is deactivated, the user is granted local
NTFS-Rights. Actually the folder is not shared.
Is it necessary to share the folder and to grant the needed share
permissions in order to access it via OpenSSH?
(might be a question regarding Interactive/ Network Logon?)

BTW, the second link you mentioned is no longer available...

Best Regards,

Frank

Hi,

Sorry for my misunderstanding.

From the symptom, it seems that Windows didn't accept your logon
authentication. We may make a test. You may configure the remote Windows XP
to accept Remote Desktop Connection and try to establish a RDC with the
fixed user account. Try to check if the use can access the file without
grant everyone read permission.

Hi Vincent,

trying to connect with Remote Desktop led me to the solution:
The user i tried to connect with wasn't a member of the "users"
builtin-Group.....
Sorry for this...
