How do you guys dl HIrem's boot CD.

At his website, they seem to be applying psychological torture.

http://www.hirensbootcd.org/download.html

They call it the downloads page, but it doesnt' dl.

Last time I was there I wante version 11.1, but settled for 11
somewhere else.

This time I found a page with v12,

http://hotfile.com/dl/81551044/769b0b3/9Down.COM__Hirens.BootCD.12.0.rar.html

but when I went to unzip it, it wanted a password.

About paswords the page says "Q.I cannot open a downloaded file: It's
corrupt or I get asked for a password, a program to open the file
with, or a missing "codec"?
A. Please ask the person you received the file link from for details
about the file format, required codecs or passwords. We have no way of
finding them out for you."

I got the link from google!

More psychological warfare against me.

It also says "Q.I paid with Paypal but did not receive my
username/password?
A. Please check your mail, also "Junk" folder! If you can't find any
mail from us - please send us your Paypal transaction ID and your
email, registered with Paypal. "

Meanwhile, back at Hirems, SUCCESS. The download page said page 1 of
9, and you had to go all the way to 9
http://www.hirensbootcd.org/download.html?start=8 to dl. Who writes
pages like this!

Do do not of that one
Here one I have use one time before
http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/
And its Freeware!

Thanks for the suggestion.

You know, I looked into this one a few months ago, and I got the
impression that I had to pick, choose, and combine the programs I
thought were important. I'm not as bad as Adrian Monk at making
decisions, but that would still take me a long time.

Or am I wrong and it comes all set up?

Because either way I would like to have it. But if it was
complicated, I was going to wait until I had some current projects
completed.

BTW, Hiren's is free too, and though it would take a long time to
learn to understand all the included programs (all freeware) at least
their names give good clues to what most of them do. So far, I've
used mostly its version of windows explorer, but it was a tremendous
help anyhow.

Ultimate Boot CD INI

You never straight-out answered my question, if one had to put
together his own list of programs**, but I did dl it and burn it and
use it, and it is very good. Thanks.

I looked at most choices and it has a lot of "low-level" programs,
many I've not seen before, but I didn't come across a file manager,
like win3.1 File Manager or Windows Explorer. If it doesn't have
that, I would say that for fixing windows installations, one still
needs something like Hiren's CD (or boot fe (pe?) which I don't have,
etc.) which will start a compact version of Windows. Trying to do
things without a graphical interface and a visual display of 30 lines
at once can be many times more time-consuming.

So if I go off to fix someone else's computer, I'll bring both of
these CDs and others.

**There is a line for user-supplied programs, but I don't know how to
do it. Since all I get is an ISO file, an image, I guess I would have
to extract all the files, add my programs, somehow change the menu to
call my programs, create a new .iso file, make it bootable, and write
it to a CD. I gather one can do that, but it is several steps and I
never have done some of them. Nor have many people, so I think most
people will just use the CD as it comes.
