FBA Dialog box and MSI Installer Font Problem

B

Boby George

I have been observing this problem for awhile, where during FBA the
dialog boxes doesn't display the right output. Sometimes it displays a #
sign or some other ascii character. Today I observed another thing where
some of the MSI installer dialog boxes were not displaying the messages
right. For example, I was seeing this problem with ATI M9 Driver
Software installer. I am using SP2 + FP2007 (OEM version) and deploying
onto a SATA hard drive. I do have font compatibility component included
in the build. What else I could be missing?

Any ideas, suggestions?

Thanks,

Boby

Boby,

Possible reasons for such behaviour you will see listed in this thread:
http://groups-beta.google.com/group/microsoft.public.windowsxp.embedded/msg/ea00a0759ee2cb33?hl=en&

Assuming you included all required fint components (seriff, etc.) it is
likely the FontSubstitutes key issue. Howeevr, I am not sure how you want to
fix this during FBA.
Try opening your pre-FBA image's software registry hive offline (on XP Pfro
machine using regedit/Load Hive feature) and see if the FontSubstitutes key
has any content there. If so, delete it and try to run the image through
FBA.
