Is there a way to fax to a contact in Outlook 2007. I have Vista Ultimate.

I think what I'm trying to do is set up Outlook 2007 to fax throught
Windows Fax and Scan.

Thanks for any help...

Yes. I have Office/Outlook 2007 running on Vista Ultimate and clicking the
To: field on a new Fax message shows me Outlook contacts. I can also start
a new email message and select the "Fax Mail Transport" as the account to
use to deliver it.

Hello Hal,

I think I have to expain it a little better. I understand the "To:" field
that has my Outlook contacts. From there I can select a fax recipient. Do I
need to set up a fax service? I don't think I want to go this root... added
expense.

I'm a little confused with start a new message and select the "Fax Mail
Transport" as the account to use to deliver it." Do you set that up a new
email account? I know how set up a new email account in Outlook, but I am a
little confused on the settings to select.

I have an internal modem and wanted to do the faxing.

Thanks

The Fax service is Windows Fax and Scan, which you should already have with
Vista Ultimate. Outlook set itself up as the default contact manager for
WF&S when you installed it. To add the Fax Mail Transport to Outlook,
'Tools|Account Settings|Email tab|New|Other|Fax Mail Transport'.

OK, got it going. Works NICE.... The one thing you forgot to mention was to
start Outlook 2007 in administrator mode to get the "Fax Mail Transport"
email going. Searched for "Fax Mail Transport" on the Web and pieced what
you were saying and other web sites.

Much appreciation. Thanks again for your responses and insite.

Happy Holidays....

Hello:
This topic is of great help.
Can I link a fax to a contact's activities? I have Outlook 2007 with BCM.
I would like to link the fax sent to the account/contact details. Also, it
would be nice if I can use Word as the Fax Editor.
Are these functionalities available in Vista\Office 2007?

OK... One at a time I guess.
First. I don't see a prolem with linking a fax to a contact's activty. But
let's define what type of "fax" you really mean. My understanding is when
you "fax" someone from Outllook 2007, it is just a glorified email (if you
know what I mean). Outlook treats it like an email, but sends it from the
"Fax Mail Transport" account that you set up as an email account under "data
file management" already. If that's how you are using Outlook to fax
something to someone. The way I do it, is start typing a new email and then
specify it to by sent using my "Fax Mail Transport" mail account. My modem
starts up, dials, and done.
The short answer is... if you can link and email to a contact... you can
link a fax (that you send in Outlook) to a contact. I actually don't link
stuff to contacts, but I think I should look into it to check it out....
If you are talking about linking a fax to a contact when you use "Fax and
Scan".... I don't think you can do that.

As far as using "Word" as the fax editor. Not quite sure what you mean
here. Do you mean you want to use "Word" in "Window Fax & Scan" as the
editor? I don't think you can do that one either.

Let me know how you made out. I use BCM too recently as a contact
management tool and I was looking into (researching) the potential to
customize the "contact" and "opportunities" forms to better fit my business.

Dear mjp:
I have implemented all the steps mentioned in this thread into Outlook/BCM.
I am linking faxes, etc. to an Account in BCM. Everything is working great.
Thank you for your lead in this topic.
One item that I would like to see in Outlook is that a Task of any kind
should appear in the Calendar as of its Due Date. The way to do it as of now
is to drag the Task onto the due date in the Calendar. I believe this should
be accomplished automatically.
