fax modem

I still cannot get windows xp to anwer the fax. I notice in properties that
the fax modem says: Smartlink Ver. 3.80.01MCI5 voice modem. Does this mean
that it is only voice? Seems wierd. The smarklink page says they don't make
modems. the modem has UTK MTEL 16-A printed on a sticker, but I can't find a
site for any company like that.

How can I get the modem and windows to work together?

Smartlink sold their modem line to Conexant years ago:

That comes no where near answering my question. I got that far. I WANT TO
GET IT TO WORK.

That was a good question. Hadn't tried, but now I have. It just says "busy"
and reschedules it.

Call that same number using your telephone.

Is the line still busy?

The number is not really busy, but XP has now tried about a dozen times and
reports it as busy.

"Voice modem" generally means voice only.

Try downloading and running one of the free system info apps, like
Belarc Advisor or Aida32 to see if you get more meaningful manufacturer
info.
