Does anybody know how to maintain the icons associated
with a newly saved favourite. The problem is that when I
save a site in my favouites it very often has a unique
icon that is visible from the favourotes pane in the
browser. These invariably are lost and replaced by the
standard explorer icon. Any ideas, fixed greatly
appreciated.

I now realise that the original icons disappear because
they are stored in temporary internet files and get
zapped when I clear this. Is there any way of avoiding
this?

Hi Tony - These are known as favicons.ico (Favorite Icons) and they normally
will only last until your Internet Explorer Temp files are cleared.

You need to get a program called FavOrg 1.4 here:

http://www.gratilog.net/anglais/internet/favorg.zip
http://uk.geocities.com/personel44/files/favorg.zip

or Version 1.2 here:

http://www.liemar.com.br/construindoseusite/downloads/favorg.zip
http://www.themes.myqth.com/Downloads/favorg.zip

(still free at these links) which will allow you to save them permanently
in a different folder and re-associate your favorites with the stored icons.
(It will also verify whether your links in Favorites are stll good, BTW.)

If you want to read more about it first, go here:

You can also try FavIoncizer, here:
http://www.codeproject.com/tools/faviconizer.asp?target=favicons I've used
this and it's quite good,. It will actually find about a third more than
FavOrg does (since it checks for referenced URL's), but lacks some of the
other cababilites of FavOrg, Recommended.

Thanks to Steve & Jim for the replies. Very interesting
and the pcmag article was pretty in depth! Does anyone
know if FAVORG is compatible with Windows XP PRO?

Steve & Jim, thx again for all th info but some of the
links are down - the pcmag is good though!

YW Tony - Yes, it's compatible. BTW, which links did you have problems with
from my posting, please, so I can fix them if necessary?
