Do a search for *.URL files in the hard disk. They may be present in some other location. Note down the location of these items. Open Registry Editor and see what values are present in these locations:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\UserShell Folders
-and-
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders
Post the value data assigned to "Favorites".

my favorites all of the sudden went back to what was
